The Earthshot Prize Week has finally happened! The three-day event from November 04 to 06, 2024 observed in Cape Town. The South African capital hosted the prestigious event for the first time.
It cordially invited the Prince of Wales – Prince William. The Earthshot Prize Week 2024 spotlighted the ground-breaking environmental solutions and brought together the world-leading innovators, investors and philanthropists to drive forward the restoration and protection of the planet.
Earthshot Week was centred around ‘The Earthshot Prize Awards’ in Cape Town. November 06, 2024 was an evening of extraordinary storytelling and star-studded performances.
The visitors celebrated the work of this year’s fifteen Finalists and announced the five Winners for 2024, who were awarded £1 million that counts to R23,800,000 to scale their solutions.
Second Day, on November 05, 2024, Cape Town hosted
, the segment considered thought-provoking conversations which aimed at multiplying the impact of The Earthshot Prize Finalists.
Their partnership with MultiChoice also provided a platform for African Youth Creators to spotlight and celebrate African solutions and the people behind them.
The event was hosted by Emmy and Grammy. Tony Award winner Billy Porter and award-winning television presenter – Bonang Matheba, also hosted the show. The Awards featured several of the world’s biggest musicians, artists, athletes and advocates.
For the very first time, the Green Carpet pre-show was live streamed on YouTube, which was hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Nomuzi Mabena (AKA Moozlie). Other celebrity guests who were invited to the Earthshot Prize Awards were Billy Porter, Bonang Matheba, Davido, Nomzamo Mbatha, Diamond Platnumz, Lebo M, Heidi Klum, Ndolvu Choir, Nina Dobrev, Robert Irwin, Tobe Nwigwe, Uncle Waffles, Winnie Harlow, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Nomuzi Mabena.
Prince William also attended the event and observed every segment of it closely. He met with the finalists of the Earthshot Prize 2024 in an inspiring morning meeting, held at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
He mentioned that each and every finalist brought a unique story and their own ground-breaking solution to the table which embodied the hope for a greener future.
Later, at the Earthshot Prize Award show, Prince William congratulated the five Winners of The Earthshot Prize 2024 and shared his words of optimism. He expressed that it is the time to repair and regenerate the planet.
Earthshot Cape Town was wrapped with Ggoldie on the decks and Earthshot Finalists on together on the dance floor. The Closing Jol was a celebration of South Africa of climate creativity and of the passion as they all share for their planet.
The event left South Africa with enough hope to make every bold ambition seem possible and concluded with the words of Bonang Matheba ‘This is just the beginning.’
