PM Jugnauth attends reception on occasion of Chinese New Year 2023

Mauritius: The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, along with his spouse, Mrs Kobita Jugnauth, attended yesterday a reception hosted by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritius, Mr Liying Zhu, at the Domaine Anna Restaurant in Flic-en-Flac, in the context of Chinese New Year 2023 which will be celebrated on 22 January 2023.

Mauritius: The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, along with his spouse, Mrs Kobita Jugnauth, attended yesterday a reception hosted by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritius, Mr Liying Zhu, at the Domaine Anna Restaurant in Flic-en-Flac, in the context of Chinese New Year 2023 which will be celebrated on 22 January 2023.

The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, along with several eminent personalities, were also present.

In his address, the Chinese Ambassador, Mr Liying Zhu, underlined that the participation of the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and President Prithvirajsing Roopun in the celebration of the Chinese New Year, is a testimony of the importance that Mauritius attributes to the Chinese culture, the friendship ties between the two countries, as well as the cooperation that exists between Mauritius and China.


 

 


He emphasised that the Government of the Republic of China promotes the celebration of the Chinese New Year to consolidate and preserve long-existing traditions as well as inculcate them in the young generation.

The Ambassador further commended the Chinese community living in Mauritius for their active celebration of the Chinese New Year through sociocultural activities, which, according to him, serve to preserve their ancestral roots whilst reinforcing their cultural heritage. He rejoiced that the Chinese culture forms an important part of the Mauritian culture and enriches it with its values and traditions.

Furthermore, he remarked that despite the various challenges that the world had to face in 2022, the Republic of China has striven to maintain its key role as a global economic driving force through its spirit of resilience and has contributed to 30% of global growth.

On that score, Mr Liying Zhu underpinned the essential principles that characterise the policy of the Chinese Government, which include visibility and stability and long-term vision, and which will help to tap into new avenues of cooperation with African countries and Mauritius.

The continued consolidation of the bilateral ties, trust and friendship between the two countries, along with the continued support of China to Mauritius on major issues, was also highlighted by the Ambassador.

He recalled that the Chinese Government had joined the efforts of the Government of Mauritius in its endeavour to alleviate and combat poverty, which he said, is aligned with his Government’s priority and mission to ensure that the whole population benefits from development.

In addition, Ambassador Liying Zhu stated that the collaborative venture of the two countries is geared towards future progress and affirmed that Mauritius has a pivotal role as a springboard for greater collaboration with the African continent.
