Mauritius: Passing rate for school certificate examinations for 2022, recorded at 78.49%

Mauritius: The pass rate for the School Certificate (SC) Examinations for the year 2022 stands at 78.49%, representing 12,145 candidates, that is, 81.52% denoting 6,857 female students and 5,288 male students (74.87%).

Mauritius: The pass rate for the School Certificate (SC) Examinations for the year 2022 stands at 78.49%, representing 12,145 candidates, that is, 81.52% denoting 6,857 female students and 5,288 male students (74.87%). 

A total of 15,474 students from 132 examination centres sat for the SC Examinations 2022, out of which 8,411 were female students and 7,063 male students. Three hundred and thirty-one candidates obtained a graded aggregate of Six, out of which 209 are female students, and 122 are male students.

These figures were communicated yesterday, by the Director of the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), Mrs Brenda Thanacoody Soborun, during a press conference held in Réduit on the overall performance of SC students at the October/November 2022 Examinations.


 

 


Furthermore, Mrs Thanacoody Soborun accentuated that the 2022 results cannot be compared to the 2021 SC results, the main reason being that the examinations were held in June 2021.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic, special consideration was given, and the SC examinations were held in June 2021. Therefore, this year’s results must be compared to October/November 2019 in order to have a fair comparison,” the MES Director pointed out.

She also indicated that the percentage pass for the Island of Mauritius stands at 11,551, which is a rate of 78.65 %, with 6,519 girls (81.77%) and 5,032 boys (74.94%).

As for the Island of Rodrigues, the Director announced that the percentage pass has successfully increased to 75.48%, compared to 57% in 2019, representing a remarkable growth of 18.48%. Five hundred and ninety-four out of 787 candidates passed their SC examinations, out of which 338 were girls (76.99%) and 256 were boys (73.56%).

In addition, she observed that a 100% pass was also obtained in many schools, namely: France Boyer de la Giroday State Secondary School (SSS); Sodnac SSS; Rabindranath Tagore Secondary School; GMD Atchia SSS; Forest Side (Girls) SSS; Mahatma Gandhi Institute; Queen Elizabeth College; Royal College Curepipe; Royal College Port Louis; Dr Maurice Curé State College and; Droopnath Ramphul State College.

The Director also remarked that the percentage of candidates who obtained credit in 2022 compared to that of 2019 has increased in certain subjects such as Biology from 58.17% in 2019 to 75.81% in 2022; Business Studies from 36.76% to 58.94% and; English from 44.63% to 58.16%.

Performance Subject-wise

The performance subject-wise for the year 2022 is as follows:

Additional Mathematics: 74.86%;

Biology: 93.88%;

Chemistry: 90.12%;

Physics: 87.28%;

Business Studies: 85.79%;

CDT – Design and Communication: 84.70%;

Commerce: 74.48%;

Computer Science: 76.86%;

Economics: 80.13%;

English Language: 91.30% and;

Physical Education: 77.93%.
