Mauritius: A site visit was conducted yesterday, 19th January 2023, at the Wooton Community Health Centre to take stock of the scope of works to be carried out for the pulling down of the existing health centre and the building of a modern one so as to provide better services to the inhabitants of the locality.
The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning; Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo; the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), Mr Serge Gilbert Bablee; the Deputy Chief Government Whip, Mr Soobeersingh Dhunoo; and other personalities were present for the site visit.
In a statement, DPM Obeegadoo highlighted that the Wootun Community Health Centre has been providing services to inhabitants of Malherbe’s, Couvent Street, Eau-Coulee and Wooton for more than 30 years.
He observed that following a request from the inhabitants of these regions, relevant authorities have decided to build a new health centre so as to ensure that adequate services are offered to citizens.
The DPM seized the opportunity to express gratitude to the Minister of Health and Wellness for this project. He also added that the construction of the new centre shows that one of the Government’s priorities remains the good health of the population.
As for Minister Jagutpal, he underlined that available land has to be identified for the construction of the new Wooton Community Health Centre. According to him, the new building will be ready by next year, with the collaboration of all relevant stakeholders.
For their part, Messrs Bablee and Dhunoo commended Dr Jagutpal for his Ministry’s contribution to the well-being of the inhabitants. They also recalled that Government will continue to provide adequate facilities so as to ensure the welfare of the population.
