Mauritius: Prime Minister, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth received the Mauritian athletes who participated at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The homecoming of the para Athletes was hosted on Wednesday, with several government officials in attendance.
The government leaders and representatives convened to give the athletes a warm wlcome at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR) International Airport. Twenty athletes from various parts of the island nation had been sent to the Paralympics to represent Mauritius.
They have performed well and made their nation proud at the international stage. They government highlighted that they hosted a ceremony in honour of the Mauritian delegation at the State Lounge Receptorium.
During the welcome of the athletes, bronze medalist, Yovanni Philippe and his coach Jean Marie Bhugeerathee were rewarded. They were given a cheque amounting to Rs 1.5 million and Rs 600 000 respectively for having excelled during the Men’s 400m T20 Final.
Yovanni Phillipe is the first Mauritian to win a medal at the Paralympic Games. Prime Minister Jugnauth commended the athletes for their remarkable performance at Paris 2024. The participation of the athletes across the various disciplines showcases their courage, determination, and resilience to brave challenges, he underscored.
Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth made a special mention to Yovanni and expressed pride that a Mauritian athlete reached the finals of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and won a medal. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the trainers and coaches as well as the athletes’ families and surroundings for their constant support and guidance.
The Prime Minister also stressed on the importance of putting at the disposal of athletes a fully integrated sports complex, such as the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex, as well as proper training so that athletes can give their best performances. He rejoiced that the measures implemented by Government are bearing their fruits.
The Sports Minister congratulated the athletes for their outstanding performance at Paris 2024, highlighting that they will serve as role models and inspire the Mauritian youth to outshine themselves.
