Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit travelled to the site of the Dominica Cable Car Project in the Roseau Valley. He was accompanying the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Melissa Skerrit and a delegation of government officials.
The Prime Minister has been visiting the projects under the aim of checking on the progress of all the projects that his administration is working on. In the valley, the team working on the cable car project has shared some details on the progress of the construction.
According to the Project Manager Randall Gliege, the project is going on at a satisfactory pace. They are aiming for completion of the cable car by the end of the year.
The project manager, while speaking to the media shared that the project was at 60 percent completion. The construction for the cable car project has been ongoing for the last three years, and the project manager claimed that they are currently well underway on the development of the project.
The Prime Minister learned about the team’s plans for the maintenance of the project. The Project Manager, to this regard shared that they would be conducting quality checks on the cable regularly.
The team shared that they have employed approximately 300 employees to work on the project. The team has shared that the project has given employment opportunities to several residents of the country.
The employees come from all over the nation, including Portsmouth, St Joseph and more communities. The project manager clarified most of the employees come from the Roseau Valley as the project is based in the valley.
The project manner noted that the cable car project is on the foundation stage and they are working on the tower foundations and foundations for the top and bottom stations. According to Project Manager Randall Gliege, the bottom station is complete, and they are working on the building structure for both.
The next order of business for the team would be to assemble the tower components with the help of experts coming from ropeway manufacturers. The team confirmed that they are deep into the foundation work.
The Mechanical and machinery work for the project will be starting in the month of February. The Prime Minister, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit was delighted to be on the trip and spoke to the media regarding the employment aspect.
He noted that he was delighted to note that they are working with youngsters of the country and giving them training and experience.
The Prime Minister said that these experiences will help them secure more permanent employment after the construction of the project has concluded.
PM Skerrit said that the project will help create more opportunities not only for the travellers who want to experience the Roseau Valley and the boiling lake, but also the tour guides. The Prime Minister proudly declared that tour guides can do their job sitting in the cable car just as easily as they do it walking.
As such, the Prime Minister said the project, can change the tourism industry of the country positively. In this regard, he also mentioned the Cabrits Marina Project in Portsmouth, which is also under construction currently and reflected on the overall impact of the projects on Dominica’s economy.
