Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit joined fellow regional leaders at the historic 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on February 26, 2026. The meeting is being observed under the theme “Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM” from February 24 to 27, 2026 at the Marriott Dome, Frigate Bay in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.
The 50th CARICOM Meeting has marked five decades of regional cooperation and integration. It underscored a renewed commitment to strengthen the unity and resilience across the Caribbean.
This session has brought together the Heads of Government from CARICOM Member States to deliberate on pressing regional priorities. As it mainly includes:
- economic stability
- climate resilience
- food and energy security
- regional security cooperation
- sustainable development
Prime Minister Skerrit actively participated in the high-level discussions and reaffirmed Dominica’s dedication to collective action and shared progress within the regional bloc. There, he emphasised the importance of solidarity among Caribbean nations at a time of evolving global challenges. He noted that deeper collaboration and coordinated policy responses remain essential to safeguard the interests of the region and advance the well-being of Caribbean citizens.
Ahead of the Leaders’ Retreat, PM Skerrit also joined his fellow Heads of Government and the CARICOM Secretary-General for an official group photograph, symbolising unity and shared vision among the region’s leadership. Leaders’ Retreat provided an opportunity for candid dialogue and strategic reflection on the Community’s future direction. It allows leaders to engage in focused discussions outside the formal plenary setting.
The 50th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting also served as a moment of reflection on the Community’s achievements since its establishment. While charting a forward-looking agenda that aims at enhancing regional integration and institutional effectiveness.
Also, leaders underscored the need to accelerate implementation of key decisions and initiatives that promote:
- economic diversification
- climate adaptation
- social development
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit reiterated Dominica’s steadfast commitment to the CARICOM integration movement. It highlighted the value of regional partnerships in building a stronger and more resilient Caribbean. This landmark meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by Member States to work collectively towards sustainable growth, shared prosperity and long-term regional stability.
