Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit held a productive bilateral meeting with Chargé d’Affaires – Karin Sullivan of the United States Embassy in Bridgetown on the margins of the CARICOM Heads of Government Summit. It reaffirms the strong and longstanding partnership between the two countries.
The meeting provided a great opportunity to both nations to engage in constructive dialogue on shared priorities and avenues for enhanced cooperation. These discussions focused on strengthening diplomatic, economic and development ties in ways that directly benefit the people of Dominica and advance mutual interests across the wider Caribbean region.
Considering his visit, PM Skerrit shared a photograph from the meeting on his official social media handle and stated that they spoke about the ways they can continue strengthening cooperation to benefit the people.
Prime Minister Skerrit underscored the importance of sustained collaboration with the United States, in areas that are critical to Dominica’s national development agenda. These include climate resilience, sustainable economic growth, security cooperation and capacity building.
As a small island developing state, Dominica continues to prioritise partnerships that support resilience-building efforts, particularly in light of increasing climate-related challenges.
Further, Chargé d’Affaires Sullivan reaffirmed the commitment of United States to maintain a strong and constructive relationship with Dominica and the broader CARICOM community. She highlighted the value of ongoing engagement and cooperation. As these collaborative initiatives in areas such as disaster preparedness, governance, trade, and education will contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
Both the officials acknowledged the significance of dialogue at the 50th CARICOM Heads of Government Summit held in St. Kitts and Nevis, which served as a critical platform for advancing regional integration and collective action on shared challenges.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepening cooperation and maintaining open channels of communication.
