St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew has announced a meeting with the community members on Friday. He is expected to meet with the social clubs and non government groups to address the safety concern s of the community.
The meeting, according to the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis is a part of a multi pronged approach to address violence and crime in the nation. As a the Minister of National Security, it is his responsibility to keep a check on the crime and violence statistics.
Furthermore, PM Drew has announced that he considers this issue as important as managing health issues. In his announcement for the meeting, PM Drew said he has been advocating for th community to come together and address the issue as a unit.
The Prime Minister has extended an invitation to several organisations from across the twin island federation. The attendants will include members from all political parties on both St. Kitts and Nevis.
He has dubbed the interaction as a National Stakeholders meeting. As per the leader of the nation, the meeting serves as a prelude and set stage for the national consultation during the 90-day campaign.
The stakeholders present at the meeting will focus on the security of the citizens. They will also discuss the ways to implement the measures to deal with crime and violence within the nation.
In line with the initiative helmed by the CARICOM, the nation is tackling the issue of crime and violence from the perspective of this being a public health issue.
The Minister of Social Security will address the surge that is being witnessed in terms of gun violence in the nation. PM Drew has claimed that he strongly condemns these actions and said that it has no place in the society.
According to PM Terrance Drew, the initiative will need the support from all the members of the community. He claimed that it is not merely an issue for the law enforcement office but a public health crisis.
He announced that they have to take up a “whole of society approach” to deal with this crisis effectively.
