St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew confirms that the administration has not received any formal communication of US travel ban on St. Kitts and Nevis. He cleared that the government is proactively engaged in Diplomatic Channels.
PM Drew reaffirmed that the Government has not received any formal communication from the United States of America regarding the impending travel restriction or ban on citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. He assured the public that his administration has not been notified officially about any such decision made by the US government.
Considering this matter, Drew stated that the St. Kitts and Nevis administration has received no official notice of any travel ban or restriction on the citizens. He said from the moment they saw the reports, they moved immediately through all appropriate diplomatic channels.
Dr. Drew then conveyed the message and informed the people that they had not been formally informed about such a list, and as soon as they get the information, they will inform the people and keep them updated.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Drew explained the steps undertaken by the Government to seek clarification. To this, Drew said that the Foreign Affairs has got activated immediately and got in touch with the Embassy of the United States of America in Barbados to get clarification.
At that time, the embassy indicated that they had not received any formal communication about this so-called list. In addition to this, the Ambassador to the United States and OAS – Jacinth Henry-Martin and him discussed the matter, and a meeting was held with the State Department to seek clarification as to what this is about.
PM Drew confirmed that the U.S. State Department is currently waiting for an update from the Embassy in Barbados regarding the matter and has reiterated that no formal position has been conveyed to the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis till date.
“Has it been circulating? Yes. Has it been concerning? Yes. But we have been working on the diplomatic channels from day one to deal with this matter, and to deal with it even more proactively,” said Dr. Drew.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the strong relationship between the St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States. He said that they have an excellent relationship with the United States of America. The relationship that spans decades and many of the citizens would have had tremendous positive impact on the development of the United States of America.
Prime Minister Drew emphasized the ongoing commitment of the administration to provide timely and information to the citizens. They noted that as far as they can report now, everything is normal. The people can travel to the United States. They can apply for a visa to the United States of America. And everything remains totally normal.
