St Kitts: Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has expressed his delight on seeing parents from across the federation register their children into the Aspire Programme. The parents converged at the Independence Square on Friday for commemorating the day dubbed Aspire Day.
The programme, under which children from the age of 8 to 18 will be given EC $1000 in their accounts. The youngsters can use this money to make investments, or use as savings.
Through the ASPIRE programme, the organization wants to promote a sense of financial freedom and financial literacy in the youth of the country. The Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, who handles the responsibility for the ministry of finance has announced this initiative early this year.
The registration turnouts for the programme have delighted not only the prime minister but also the other members of the community. The registration for the programme had started on Monday and concluded on Friday of this week.
Hundreds of parents had gone to the office of the Cable Ltd for the registration process. The people have shared that the project is being supported by several officials and financial institutions.
PM Drew said that he was delighted to see the people of the country take active interest in attaining financial literacy. The fact that the youngsters are eager to take responsibility for their finances.
The people of the country have shared that the St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank limited has extended their support to the cause. The youth ambassadors for the programme were also present at the independence square.
The prime minister met these ambassadors and appreciated them for their role in helping the youngsters register for the programme.
It is important for the people of the country to know and understand the importance of sound finances and financial literacy. The programme seeks to build a practical approach to handling finances among the youngsters of the country from a young age.
