St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of his administration to accountability and transformational leadership. The nation is powering progress with discipline and purpose.
PM Drew outlined the achievements during the press conference with Cabinet Ministers held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. He emphasized that the government is delivering real results across roads, schools, homes, hospitals and beyond, since he took office three years ago.
Drew said that they may have inherited challenges, but they also inherited an unshakable responsibility to build a more resilient, more inclusive, and more sustainable future for all.
While addressing a wide range of development initiatives taken in the St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Drew focused on three core areas in reshaping the Federation, considering infrastructure, energy independence, and citizen empowerment.
Transforming National Infrastructure
During the press conference, PM Drew said that across the country, major investments are modernizing physical infrastructure. The long-awaited desalination plant in Basseterre is almost 75% complete and will soon bring clean, reliable water to thousands across St. Peters, Frigate Bay, and nearby areas, which will solve a long-standing problem.
The new Basseterre High School has delayed its work for more than a decade. It is now under construction with foundations that have are laid and the project is advancing into its next phase.
Also, Road rehabilitation is underway in communities like Shadwell, Newton Ground, White House Gardens, and notably, St. Peter’s Main Road, which is finally addressing its negligence despite being the island’s fastest-growing area.
Advancing Energy Independence
Moreover, St. Kitts and Nevis is taking decisive steps toward energy resilience and sustainability. The national power grid is being upgraded to enhance efficiency and reliability.
In Nevis, geothermal energy development is progressing, with five international firms bidding to drill wells, backed by US $37 million with secured funding. Complementing these moves, over 50 citizens are being trained in electric vehicle maintenance, and another 50 will soon begin training in solar PV installation, laying the foundation for a green economy.
Empowering People and Protecting Livelihoods
The government continues to prioritize social protection, workforce development, and economic equity. Over 7,000 youngsters have been trained through the Aspire Program, gaining vital skills for employment.
The minimum wage was increased to $12.50 per hour, following a comprehensive national consultation. Monthly support mechanisms such as the Budget Boost Wallet and VAT relief have reached over 22,000 citizens, easing household financial pressures.
In housing, 183 homes have been handed over, with 79 more under construction that is making home ownership more accessible than ever.
Prime Minister Drew further reaffirmed that real progress may not always be flashy, but it is tangible in the lives being changed. He said that the St. Kitts and Nevis government may not get everything perfect, as they’re not perfect beings, but they will always lead with compassion, competence, and a clear purpose.
He affirmed that the government pledges to remain transparent and accountable as it builds a nation that works for everyone.
