St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health in the government of St Kitts and Nevis has recently reintroduced the Associate Degree in Nursing. The degree will be available at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College starting May 12.
The announcement for this development was made on the occasion of Nurses Day on May 12, 2025. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies,’ The Prime Minister asserted that the nurses are the backbone of the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
The Prime Minister also noted that the reintroduction of the Nursing Degree is part of a deliberate and strategic effort. The administration wants to make sure that the youngsters have more than one ways to get into the profession of nursing.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew highlighted that it is important for the healthcare sector of the country to get the support and recognition it deserves. As such, the Minister of Health has pledged more investment and better facilities in the healthcare sector.
More Educational opportunities is also a part of the same effort and will, in the long run, help in strengthening the healthcare industry. This associate degree is designed to complement the existing Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
With the help of this programme, the authorities will be furthering on the Sustainable Island State Agenda. The SISA prioritizes the development of healthcare and human capital development.
The Prime Minister said that the introduction of the associate degree is only a step in the strategic and overarching plan of the administration. The Prime Minister said that they will be launching a national research initiative which will help dictate future policies.
The Prime Minister also urged the youth of the federation especially the boys to look into careers in the field of nursing. The Prime Minister highlighted that he is thankful for the nurses dedicated service and contribution to healthcare.
He has also lauded the student nurses who are receiving their training and education at the CFBC. He thanked the members of the nursing fraternity for their dedication and hardwork.
