St Kitts: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew addressed the media during his monthly roundup. During his interaction with the members of the media he addressed several important topics pertaining to national interest.
Crime and Violence were one of the most important issues that came under discussion for the media interaction. The Prime Minister called for unity in trying to combat the issue.
The Prime Minister of the country has maintained that he believes that this issues needs to be addressed from the perspective of a public health emergency. Accordingly, PM Drew said that the people of the country must come together and that is the only way they can find a solution to the issue.
In the media interview, Dr Drew highlighted that the nation has not recorded any homicides in the first three months of 2025. The made this announcement on April 2 during the Prime Minister’s Roundup interview.
The Prime Minister highlighted that he is proud of the nation for attaining this milestone in light of the ongoing efforts to combat crime and violence. The Prime Minister also defended the methods used by his administration as opposed to their predecessors.
PM Drew said that crime can not be addressed with the help of corrupt programmes or divisive politics. Dr Drew said that the peace programme which was running prior to his taking the office of the Prime Minister was a failed attempt to address the issue.
He said that people should be made part of the programmes that can genuinely help in giving them a second or third chance if needed. In light of this, he applauded the whole nation for the achievement of not recording any homicides in the country for the first quarter of the year.
The Prime Minister said that all the political parties, christian community, Youth Groups have played a crucial role in making this achievement a reality. In this regard, PM Terrance Drew also appreciated the law enforcement agencies in the federation for their efforts.
He also lauded the Citizen Security Task Force for their sincere efforts and encouraged them to continue their work in ensuring peace and safety in the federation.
