Cameroon: President of the Republic of Cameroon – Paul Biya, officially endorsed the ratification of the groundbreaking visa waiver agreement between Cameroon and Russia on Wednesday.
The agreement focuses mainly on the mutual elimination of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic or service passports. The agreement also involves the accord, which received parliamentary approval a few weeks ago and which also successfully navigated all necessary stages, including national representation.
As ratified by President Biya, the agreement is a significant step towards greater ease of travel between the two nations. It is also strengthening diplomatic ties and facilitating exchange among the citizens.
Reportedly, the reciprocal removal of visa requirements opens new avenues of bilateral cooperation, both economically and culturally, for the citizens who hold diplomatic or service passports.
This is a great initiative which was on hold for long. It goes beyond mere travel facilitation. This also symbolizes a shared commitment to promote harmonious international relations.
As per the sources, the enactment of this law by President Biya strongly reflects Cameroon’s commitment to playing an active role in fostering open diplomacy. It is also creating an environment conducive to fruitful exchanges with the Russian Federation.
Notably, the development also underlines the importance of encouraging international collaboration with a spirit of mutual understanding and respect.
It is commendable that by eliminating visa barriers for diplomatic or service passport holders, Cameroon and Russia are laying the foundation for enhanced cooperation. Both countries are demonstrating their dedication to smoother and more harmonious global connectivity.
The agreement was originally signed on 27 July 2023, during the second Russia-Africa summit in St Petersburg which follows the similar agreement of Cameroon with other such countries as China, Switzerland, Brazil, Italy and Turkey.
It was officially signed by the Foreign Minister of Russia – Sergey Lavrov and the Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Cameroon – Lejeune Mbella.
