South Sudan, Juba: President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Hon. Pal Mai Deng, the newly appointed national Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
President Kiir appointed Hon. Pal, following the tragic passing of the late Minister Hon. Manawa Peter Gatkuoth nearly five months ago.
In his remarks after the oath-taking ceremony, President Kiir urged the new Minister to lead by example and follow his predecessor’s footsteps in serving South Sudanese people regardless of tribe or political affiliations.
“You are now a Minister, and you are in a position of authority. So do the right thing for the best interest of the nation.” President Kiir reiterated.
The President further noted that the government’s role is to provide services to its people by ensuring that citizens have access to good roads, schools and hospitals, even in the far corners of South Sudan.
In his acceptance of the appointment, Hon. Pal thanked the President for appointing him to one of the critical government dockets while pledging to dedicate his efforts to deal with the challenges that come with the new assignment.
The ceremony was administered in the Office of the President by the Deputy Chief Justice, Dr John Gatwech Lul.
