Malawi: The President of Malawi Lazarus Chakwera has registered as voter for the upcoming election in Malawi. The nation is preparing to organize their general elections in Malawi under the guidance and support of the Malawi Electoral Commission.
During the registration exercise, President Chakwera was accompanied by First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera.
The couple registered in the voters roll for the upcoming elections on Saturday. They have shown their readiness to participate wholeheartedly in registering their names in the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) voters roll, in readiness for the 2025 General Elections.
The couple got themselves registered at Malembo primary school in Lilongwe North West Constituency. The couple has their valid address in the area of Traditional Authority Chiwaula.
President Lazarus Chakwera has taken up the responsibility of a whistle stop tour in Lilongwe district. In this tour, he is asking the people of the district to go in large numbers to register for voting.
The president believes that it is very important for them to choose leaders of their choice in the forthcoming general elections.
President Chakwera said he registered as a voter because it is his constitutional right. He came forward to urge the people of the community to register in the voters roll if they have reached the age of 18.
He reiterated that it is the constitutional right of the people to make sure that they have a say in choosing their own government.
MEC is conducting the third and the final phase of voter registration in Mzimba, Lilongwe, Mangochi, Chikwawa, Nsanje and Mwanza. The districts have already reported a satisfactory response in terms of people making it to the centers for the registration.
The officials have shared that it is encouraging for the MEC officials to know that their efforts are being met with a positive response from the people of Malawi.
The voter registration in the districts started on 28th November to 11th December 2024. The elections will be held nearly nine months later in September 2025
