Botswana: The president of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi has been invited to take up a two day working visit to the Republic of Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema extended an invitation to his Botswanan Counterpart for the visit of two days.
The President will land in Zambia on March 26 and depart on March 27. The work visit is proof of the Botswanan leader’s commitment to fostering strong international relations with his fellow nations.
The President of Zambia had previously visited Botswana during a similar work visit in January 2024. During the said visit, the two leaders engaged on various issues of mutual importance. The interactions aimed to explore potential areas to enhance cooperation between the two nations further.
The officials have shared their commitment to the welfare of the two nations. During the Botswanan President’s visit, the two leaders are expected to follow up on various initiatives discussed during the January 2024 trip.
Further, the two leaders will also sign a number of agreements for the benefit of the two nations. The agreements under discussion during the two-day visit include:
- Agreement between Botswana and Zambia on establishing a Bi-National Commission
- Agreement on the Establishment of the Kazungula Bridge Authority
- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations between Botswana and Zambia
President Masisi called Zambia an important ally of Botswana and a key strategic partner for the country. The two nations share a strong bilateral bond and are dedicated to developing SADCs (South African Developing Countries).
The two countries have played an important role in the international communities that they are members of, including the Commonwealth, The United Nations, The African Union, and more.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi will accompany a delegation of high level ministers and government officials to the two day visit. The delegation led by President Masisi includes:
- Minister of Foreign Affairs
- Minister of Defence and Security
- Minister of Transport and Public Works
- Minister of Agriculture; Labour and Home Affairs
- Minister of Health
- Minister of Minerals and Energy
- Minister of Trade and Industry
- Minister of Communications, Knowledge and Technology
