Zambia: The Permanent Secretary of the Northern Province Bernard Mpundu has appealed to the Zambia Police service to ensure security. They want to make sure that the people of the nation are provided adequate security across the borders of the province.
The border security is a major cause of concern for the administration of the nation. The officials have shared that the leaders have called on the support from the Police Service.
Mpundu observed that the province shares vast boundaries with other countries which could pose a threat to internal security. Mpundu indicated that a bigger part of the boundary and border regions coincide with the water region.
He added that this makes it difficult for policing due to inadequate water vessels for operations of this kind.
Permanent Secretary of the Northern Province has also noted with concern that the province is invaded by foreign witch finders. These people usually terrorize residents in the name of witch finding during the harvest period.
The media sources have reported that Bernard Mpundu made these remarks when Deputy Inspector General Police In charge of Administration Alita Mbahwe paid a courtesy call on him at his office. He further called on the Zambia police service to establish police presence in newly created districts such as Lunte, Senga and Lupososhi.
Furthermore the Deputy Inspector General Alita Mbahwe acknowledged the need to sensitize traditional leaders on the witchcraft act. Mbahwe also disclosed that housebreaking has remained the most predominant crime in the province.
She explained that her mission to the province was to interact with officers and discuss various issues of concerns and interests that will help promote a value centred police service.
She disclosed that her visit to the province will be used to remind officers on issues of integrity, Legal issues, thrift society services among others to reduce some of the stress that officers encounter.
The Deputy Inspector General has since urged the police officers to seriously step out in the execution of duty as it will help in ensuring that communities around border areas are secure and protected.
