Red Arrows defeats Green Eagles by 2-0 at ABSA Cup

The ABSA Cup was formerly known as the Barclays Cup, and is currently branding for an association football cup competition that launched in 2007 by the Football Association of Zambia.

Zambia: The Zambian football team the Red Arrows, defeated the Green Eagles in an ABSA Cup Military encounter and became the fourth team to qualify through the semi-finals.

The ABSA Cup (Amalgamated Banks of South Africa Limited), quarter final match was played at Nkoloma Stadium which was nothing short of a spectacular match, considering the teams whose play even contributed to the success.

The Green Eagles, who beated the Red Arrows at Nkoloma this season, arrived at the ground with confidence.

The doubts started emerging when they were unsettled by an early goal five minutes into the game by none other than Ciel Ebengo, who made it a habit to score from long distances.

Reportedly, before the Green Eagles could recognise – Saddam Yusuf Phiri added another goal and made it to 2-0, later in ten minutes.

After that, the Green Eagles began chasing the game with Arrows who dominated the encounter. By the half-time green eagles were down by 2 goals.

Moreover, the Green Eagles reorganized itself after halftime and impressive runs that ended with Derek Bulaya won one back for his side after a short break.

Notably, the Red Arrows made the tactical changes and countered back. This closed out the options for the Green Eagles until the end of the game.

Considerably, the match then ended with 2-1 in favor of Red Arrows, with Green Eagles bowing out of the tournament.
