Red Arrows Executive Lyson Simwanda dies in Lusaka accident

Zambia: Lyson Simwanda, a member of the executive committee of the Red Arrows, died in a road accident on Saturday. The incident happened in the Northmead area of Zambia.

The Red Arrows Football confirmed his death and sent out condolences to his close family and friends. Following Simwanda’s sudden demise, the fraternity is in shock and calling on people to do safe driving.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) also joined the rest of the football family in mourning Simwanda’s death.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga said the death of Flight Sergent Simwanda had robbed the game of an emerging administrator.

“As the football family, we are greatly shocked at the death of Simwanda, who was at the Saturday Week 15 doubleheader at Edwin Imboela Stadium. Football has lost such a youthful and progressive football administrator whose contribution will be greatly missed,” Kamanga says.

“We extend our condolences to his family and the Red Arrows Football Club management for this great loss.”

Red Arrows Football Club President, Col Moses Kambimbi, on behalf of the Red Arrows Football Club Exco, profoundly conveys his sadness and heavy-hearted condolences to F/Sgt Lyson Simwanda’s family on this sudden and untimely loss of a cherished member of his Exco.

Col Kambimbi has said the news of Simwanda’s tragic pass on in a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) last night, 09 December 2023, in the Northmead area has left many of us all in shock and disbelief.

“He was not only an integral part of our Exco but also a friend and a dedicated individual whose passion for the game brought joy and inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His absence will be keenly felt, and the void left by his departure is immeasurable,” the club president remarks.

“LJ, as fondly known and called, brought an unwavering commitment, infectious enthusiasm, and a sense of comradeship that enriched our Exco and contributed significantly to the success of our football initiatives,” he notes

His untimely death coincides with our Week 15 fixture against Zanaco scheduled for Sunset Stadium on Sunday at 15h00.

“As Red Arrows Football Club, we will continue to remember and honour his legacy by upholding the values and dedication that he brought to our Exco, the players and the technical bench,” Col Kambimbi adds.
