Nigeria: The Asari Toru Local Government area of Rivers State in Nigeria hosted several celebrations and events to commemorate the new year. The organization, consisting of members from the Local Government, ASALGA First, also hosted a series of events to commemorate the festive season.
Some of these events included:
- The Street Party, which was hosted on December 29, 2023,
- New Year’s Eve Service at The First Baptist Church, Buguma City, hosted on December 31 and
- Crossover Night Get-together at the private residence of the Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru LGA, Onengiyeofori George.
As per the officials, the celebrations took place in a safe and peaceful environment. The Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Onengiyeofori George was grateful for the peace and safety.
In his address to the community on Sunday, he gave the credit for the peace and unity that prevailed in the LGA to God’s mercy. He asserted that the cooperation of the people enabled him to deliver on his promises.
Hon. George made these remarks at a Special Thanksgiving Service organized by All the Churches in Oproama. The event aimed to mark the end of the year 2023 at St Gabriel’s Anglican Church, Oproama.
He said that he and the Secretary to the Council, Supervisors, Advisers, and other political appointees were at the Service to thank God for what He had done for him, his family and the LGA for the past years.
He continued that it has been the abundant grace from the Lord, adding that ASALGA has been a very peaceful LGA because of the help of God.
He further advised members of the clergy to intensify prayers for the Oproama community and, indeed, for the entire LGA, adding that peace and unity is a panacea for all-round development.
“We are one people, as Asalgans our destiny as a people are tied together. Therefore, we must continue to pray and work together to ensure that we make ASALGA a much better place,” he stated.
The people of Asari Toru Local Government area appreciated the administration for maintaining strict protocols to ensure the safety of the people.
