Zambia: Zambia compressed Angola 6-0 as captain Barbra Banda scored a hat-trick to give the Copper Queens a huge advantage in the Morocco 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final round qualifier.

It was the Copper Queens’ biggest away win of the year, coming under two months after they thrashed Morocco 6-2 in a friendly, but Wednesday’s match was key as it was the first leg of the WAFCON final round qualifier.

Green Buffaloes Women FC defender Lushomo Mweemba poked home the opener in the 40th minute before Barbra Banda netted from the penalty spot five minutes later. The Shanghai Shengli forward made it three in added time when she benefited from a Racheal Kundananji assist in added time.

The Copper Queens continued with their impressive half as midfielder Ireen Lungu, who was key in the game, scored past Maria dos Ceus Muecalia to make it four for the Queens in 52 minutes. Kundananji made it two assists in the 65th minute for Banda, who closed the day on a hat-trick before the Madrid CFF striker scored a goal of her own after superb work from substitute Racheal Nachula four minutes from time.

Zambia will host Angola in the second leg on Tuesday, 5 December 2023, at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola. Kick-off will be at 18h00, and tickets are available from K20 in all Shoprite stores countrywide via CompuTicket.

The FAZ Media Team shares some of the photos from the encounter at the Estadio 22 de Junho in Luanda.

One of the users, Liyanda Haggai, said, “Misozi ZULU is a morale booster, and it was a mistake leaving her out at the World Cup; some players are good not only on the pitch but also to remove adrenaline from other players as they head into a crucial game.”

“Remember Chintu Kampamba at the 2012 AFCON? He really played the role of a prayer warrior while his friends did their part on the field of play.”
