Roads and Transport Team inspects Kenya Ports Authority 

The forthcoming event is expected to feature various sports disciplines, with more than 1,500 MPs and senators from East African parliaments anticipated to participate

Kenya: Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary – Davis Chirchir inspected the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). Mbaraki Sports Club facility is preparing for the upcoming East African Parliamentary Games which is scheduled to be held on December 2024. 

During his visit, the CS was given a brief on the ongoing upgrades at the sports club, which will host the 14th edition of the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (PIG) from December 7th to 19th, 2024. 

He was welcomed at the facility by Kenya Ports Authority Board Chairman – Benjamin Tayari and KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto.  

Reportedly, the CS was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Principal Secretary State Department of Roads – Joseph Mbugua and Members of Parliament – Sylvanus Osoro, Mohammed Ali, Mishi Mboko, Mohamed Machele, Faith Gitau and Bady Twalib.

They are hosting such a significant sporting event, which is crucial, as it will provide a substantial boost to the local economy, particularly benefiting the tourism sector. 

According to the Co-Chairperson of Bunge Sports Club – Vincent Musau. He led the Members of the Committee and secretariat on a three-day inspection tour of the venues and set to host the games. 

While talking to the writer after a meeting with the coast region security team on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 Musau said that the necessary arrangements for the games have been made.  

He said that the preparation is on three fronts, security, playing grounds and accommodation. They have just had a meeting with the security team this morning.  

They assured them that they have more than enough personnel and infrastructure, can also confirm that they have visited the playing grounds, and the fields are available and are ready for the games. 

Musau added that the necessary arrangements have been made for all the participants in terms of hotel reservations. They noted that December is a high season for tourists, for which they called on all the participants to continue and make their reservations early. 

The team further inspected Shanzu Teachers Training College grounds where football, athletics and tug of war will be held. Considering this, Principal Peter Ekabu assured the Members that the grounds would be ready for the planned activities. 

Notably, areas that required improvements include levelling of the goal area, repairing the goal posts to make them visible and marking of the field for athletics were discussed.
