South Africa: President Cyril Ramaphosa, extended his condolences on passing of former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh. He shared his message on his official X handle and presented his grief.
In his note, President Ramaphosa penned, “On behalf of the Government and people of South Africa, I extend my sincere condolences to the Government and People of India on the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.”
SA President praised the minister and said in his message that he will be remembered by the South Africans for supporting them in their freedom struggle, “Dr. Manmohan Singh is remembered by all South African citizens for the major role he played in supporting South Africa during freedom struggle.”
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa conveyed through his message that not just India but the whole world has lost a gem and said, “Not only India but the developing world has lost a true son, leader and statesman who has constantly championed the cause of the Global South including the African Continent on the International Stage.”
“During his tenure as Prime Minister of India from year 2004 to 2014, Singh played a vital role in strengthening the bond and expanding bilateral relations between the two friendly nations,” mentioned President Ramaphosa while extending his condolences to the late minister.
Recollecting the memories, Dr. Manmohan Singh’s visited South Africa twice for major events considering which President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted, “We vividly recall his visits to South Africa in 2007 to attend the second IBSA Summit and again in 2013 to attend the fifth BRICS Summit.”
“At this sombre moment we stand in solidarity with the Government and people of India and also extend our sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Manmohan Singh. May his soul rest in peace,” said President Cyril Ramaphosa while concluding his message.
Reportedly, former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday night, Dec 26, 2024. The minister was the 13th Prime Minister and the first Sikh to hold the coveted title. He headed the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre from May 2004 to May 2014.
The Government of India announced the State funeral ceremony to held at Nigambodh Ghat at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec 28, 2024.
