Castries, Saint Lucia: Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information of Saint Lucia – Ernest Hilaire expressed heartfelt condolences on the passing of great journalist of the country Guy Ellis on February 13, 2023.
While bidding goodbye to the veteran, he remembered the work done by him. Minister Hilaire outlined that the country has lost an icon of journalism.
Minister took it to social media and mentioned that it is with great sadness that Minister Hilaire has learnt of the sudden passing of the veteran St Lucian Journalist Guy Ellis. Guy Ellis was an icon of St. Lucian journalism.
As per the post by the tourism minister, in a career that spanned just over sixty years, starting as a young news reporter with the Voice in May 1962, and rising to become Managing Editor of two newspapers, the Voice and the Mirror, an international news correspondent, author and historian, journalism lecturer and Consultant, Guy Ellis was excellence itself.
Furthermore, Minister informed that he exemplified the qualities of a true journalist- balanced independent thought, analytical integrity and accurate reporting. He was a skilful editor and writer, who always maintained the highest standards of his trade. In this era of fake news and information technology that has created instant journalists, the qualities of a Guy Ellis will be sorely missed. He is an example to be emulated by young aspiring St Lucian journalists.
While concluding the post, Deputy Prime Minister Hilaire mentioned, “On behalf of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, I extend sincere condolences to his family, friends and the media fraternity of St Lucia. May he rest in Peace.”
Many Saint Lucians joined their minister to express sadness and grief. One of the Saint Lucian stated, “May he rest in peace. I pray that the good Lord continue to comfort his family during this difficult time.” While another mentioned, “Rest in Peace Guy Ellis. Your earthly work is done. Condolences to his wife Tina and their family.” The third commented, “My condolences to his wife and family. May his Soul Rest In Peace.”
