SAPS shot suspected murderer during an arm fight with a police officer

South Africa: A suspected has been shot and fatally wounded when he indulged in an arm fight with a police officer to gain control over a firearm on Monday, May 13, 2024 at night. The suspect was in the wanted list and in connection with a murder case.

Reportedly, the police officers who were the members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Stabilization Team operationalised the intelligence team and arrested the suspected culprit at the King Shaka International Airport as he attempted to flee the province.


The investigations led the police to a residential estate on Ashley Road in Hillcrest where the South African Police searched for the accomplice of the suspects.

As per the reports, during the investigation it was found that the suspects wanted to use the toilet and the officers freed the suspect for the same from one of his hands from the handcuffs and accompanied him to the toilet.

Notably, with the police under the impression that the suspect was opening the drawer to reach for a toilet paper, the suspected criminal drew a firearm from the drawer and fired a shot.

Vigilant police officer then reacted immediately and wrestled for the firearm ensued. During that tussle, the police tactically managed to retaliate and the suspect then got wounded fatally.

According to the sources, the suspect was wanted for the 2022 murder case of a 24-year-old man who was shot and killed during a church service in Wyebank.

After that the fatally wounded suspect and his accomplice allegedly went inside the premises on Mdoni Road and started firing openly at the victim before fleeing away from the scene. The search was then deceased for the suspects accomplice which is underway.


Many such cases have increased in the vicinity for which the South African Police Services (SAPS) has decided to take strict action. Such sudden murder cases have been attempted several times, and many a times the Church servicemen have been their target.
