Malawi: Mzuzu police force has announced that they have increased the security arrangements in all locations across the city of Mzuzu. The development has been done in light of the during Easter holiday which started on Good Friday, March 29 and will end on Sunday, with the Easter Day.
The authorities of the city understand the religious and social significance of the festival which allows families and friends to come together and celebrate. The holidays offer an opportunity for the people to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The people across the world celebrate the occasion with great vigour and excitement. The Easter celebrations are marked by a number of events hosted across various communities.
The communities make a deliberate effort to include all family members in the Easter celebrations. The families pray and celebrate with Easter-themed egg hunts, competitions, and movies.
The authorities of the city have shared that they are making efforts to ensure that the people can celebrate and commemorate easter in a safe and secure environment. They also issued a media statement signed by a public relations officer for Mzuzu Police Station, Augustus’s Nkhwazi.
In the statement, they assured the public of heightened security while the Christian community celebrates. Nkhwazi added in the media statement that they have also deployed special patrol teams to all locations across the city.
Further, the Public Relations Officer also claimed that they tightened security checks at road blocks and check points.
“People should work hand in hand with the law enforcers by providing necessary information on all suspected criminals and also ensure that their homes are secured before going out,” he added.
A resident of Zolozolo location in the city, Madalitso Andrew has appreciated the police for tightening up security. He also urged fellow residents to support the law enforcers in fighting crime in the city during the Easter season.
Pastor Memory Chinawa of Wonderful Salvation Ministries came forward to call for peace in the community. He asked all Christians to support the police as they continue to make selfless sacrifices and working tirelessly towards improving the security situation in the city.
