Simola Hillclimb premiers 14th edition of motor-race at Knysna

Knysna, South Africa: Simola Hillclimb is back with its 14th edition here in the town to premier motoring and motorsport event, which will come alive at Knysna with the sound of rip-roaring race and road cars.

The racing enthusiasts will see a wide range of classic cars on Hedge Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Knysna Simola Hillclimb, Old Cape Road, Knysna. South Africa’s premier motorsport event has already begun on Thursday, May 02, 2024 and will be observed for four days till Sunday, May 05, 2024.

Reportedly, the race cars will be displayed alongside the popular Classic Car Friday Parade from 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. along with the Waterfront Drive.

The Simola Hillclimb will be live-steamed this year, and people can watch the event live on Speed Festival. It will be hosted radio DJ and F1 presenter Sasha Martinengo and Cars.co.za presenter Ciro de Siena.

1.9km high Simola Hill will host some adrenaline fuelled excitement that will begin with three practice sessions for the Classic Car Friday competitors and will be followed by three qualifying rounds.

Furthermore, the spectators can look forward to demonstrations that will include Monster-supported South African Car Park Drift champion – Jim Macfarlane and Suzuki, BMW and racing motorcycle demo runs and hot laps in various cars with the guests.

The winner of the Classic Conqueror 2024 will be determined by the Class Finals and all-or-nothing Top-10 Shootout, which will decide who will win the crown.

Moreover, the prize-giving ceremony will be observed in the pitlane shortly after the final shootout. Scrutineering for the King of the Hill competitors will take place on Friday, at the Hedge Street venue from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. However, the Fan Fest activities and race cars displayed at the event will entertain the visitors.

Interested visitors can look out for lots of tyre-smoking antics during the Parade on Waterfront Drive between 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

As per the sources, King of the Hill will begin on Saturday, May 03, 2024 at 9:05 a.m. with the four practice sessions. The fans can also look forward to watch the 1992 Sasol-sponsored Jordan 192 Formula-1 Car, which will perform the demonstration runs on Simola Hill.

Notably, Sunday morning will begin with a warm-up at 9:05 a.m. which will be followed by three final qualifying opportunities that will determine three competitors which will make it to the Class Finals after the lunch break.

Considerably, the top qualifying times across all six sessions will determine the finalists for the Top-10 Shootouts. King of the Hill titles will be including rewards for the best times across three major categories, namely Road Cars and Supercars, Modified Saloon Cars, Single Seaters and Sports Cars.

Despite, this much, the racing event will also offer various family-friendly activities and attractions that will include food and beverage stalls, exhibitors and vendors in the Spectator Hubs, the Monster Energy Rig Riot and activations at Turn-2 on Saturday and Sunday.

The fans can try racing with the ATK Esports Racing simulator, that features a virtual world and can win the track experience.

Mesmerising views of the Simola Hillclimb and Knysna Heads from the Helicopter rides can also be experienced as well as they can also observe the scenic views of the Garden Route mountains and Knysna estuary.
