South African Proteas maintained their test record of 25 years, against the Caribbean side and won the Sir Vivian Richards trophy by triumphing in the second and the final test.
The Proteas guys beats West Indies by 40 runs on Day-3 of the second test match at Providence Stadium, Guyana and retained the Sir Vivian Richards Trophy.
Making their win on Saturday, the South African team extended their dominance over the Caribbean side.
The Proteas set a chasing target of 263 runs for West Indies team, after which West Indian quick Jayden Seales took his career’s best figures of 6/61 and helped in bowling out the visitors, making 246 runs in their second innings during the morning innings.
The hosting team ended up losing wickets at regular intervals, and bowled out completely for 222. Seales was the last player to fall for the wicket, just minutes before the ended. He fell to the South Africa’s Player of the Series Keshav Maharaj, who claimed his 13th wicket of the 2-match series.
South Africa won the two matches of series by 1-0 and took home the Sir Vivian Richards Trophy. However, the win extended South Africa’s unbeaten Test Series run against the West Indies from the first-ever series meeting between the two teams in 1998-99.
The Windies have not been able to defeat the Proteas in a Test Series for consecutive 25 years and that record now sets to continue.
Keshav Maharaj said gladly, “For a team that is in a transition phase we really did well to come away with this success.”
“Getting ready for Test cricket has always remained part of my plan, no matter what other formats I play. I always keep a red ball in my bag,” the South African spinner added.
“The Sir Vivian Richards Trophy is ours!” shouted the South Africa team.
Sir Vivian Richards Trophy is a cricket trophy, rewarded to the winner of Test Series, particularly between South Africa and West Indies.
As per the sources, the team first played against each other for a Test Series in 1991-92 season. It is a one-match series in which the West Indians emerged as the winners.
The series between the two sides was only named starting with the 1998-99 West Indian tour of South Africa, in which a five-match series was won by the hosts 5-0.
Since then, the Trophy has been contested another eight times, and South Africa has emerged the winner and retained the Trophy each time.
