South Africa: Ethekweni Municipal workers discovered the Skeletal remains of a human attired in a blue jeans & red t-shirt. The municipal workers were cleaning up and cutting the bush along the R102 northbound lane in Verulam – KZN when they discovered the skeleton.
The skeleton was lying in the drain where they were working, which may have masked the foul smell of the decomposing body. Seeing the state of the dead body, it is difficult to ascertain when the victim died.
The municipality workers contacted the Rection Unit officers and reported their discovery to the officers. The call for assistance reached the RUSA office around 12:57 hours on Friday. A team of Reaction officers was dispatched to the location to investigate the incident further.
The officers talked to the Municipal Workers to give them the details. According to the municipal workers, they were asked to cut the bush three (3) meters on either side of the R102 northbound lane in Verulam – KZN. This is when they discovered the skeleton lying in a drain.
The further investigations into the matter are being demanded by the people. The skeleton can be taken to the hospital for postmortem and DNA testing to determine the person’s identity.
The people have also extended their condolences on the unfortunate death of the victim. The fact that the identity and background of the suspect remains unknown has been affecting many residents of the community.
The people, primarily residents of Verulam KZN have expressed their grief and shock on the death and expressed concern for their own personal safety. The crime rates in the Verulam area of Kwazulu-Natal province have been skyrocketing, leaving many residents concerned for their life.
The people have also expressed that the situation would have been prevented there were fewer grass bushes. This is because bushes have been a convenient route of escape for the criminals after petty robberies and shooting incidents.
In light of this, the people have urged the Municipal corporations to take their work more seriously.
