Zambia: Anthony Fulwe, thee acting District Commissioner of Solwezi has called on parents to focus on the immunization of their children. The District Commissioner claimed that it is the responsibility of the parents to ma sure their children are healthy and safe.
In line with this, he has urged parents, guardians and caregivers in the district to take immunisation seriously. Once the children are vaccinated, they will be protected from a variety of diseases by the virtue of immunity.
The immunization efforts are especially crucial for the in order to prevent diseases in under five children. The children who are vaccinated at regular intervals are expected to live a long, healthy and fulfilled lives.
The healthcare stakeholders all over the world urge the parents to make sur that children under 5 are duly vaccinated. The acting District Commissioner of Solwezi claimed that it is unfortunate that some parents and caregivers are not aware about the benefits of immunisation.
Due to lack of knowledge and awareness, the parents are not ready to get their children vaccinated which is wrong. The District Commissioner, Anthony Fulwe was addressing a Stakeholders meeting when he made these remarks.
The stakeholders meeting was aimed towards bridging the gap between immunization and children. Thee meeting was organised by Development Aid from People to People (DAPP). The District Commissioner emphasised the need for children to be fully immunised if the country is to have a healthy population.
DC Fulwe emphasised the need for Universal Child Immunisation (UCI). He said that it is a global health initiative aiming to ensure all children receive essential vaccinations.
The government is working in order to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases. The aim of these diseases is to achieve 90 percent national vaccination coverage.
The health stakeholders want to eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases and strengthen health systems and immunisation programmes.
Development Aid from People to People DAPP Project Coordinator Muyaba Nketani said her organisation has received funding from Churches Health Association of Zambia CHAZ to implement a Project called, Total Control of Child’s Immunisation in two districts namely ,Solwezi and Kalumbila.
She added that the one year four months’ project is aimed at helping children with Zero immunisation.
