South Africa: On Tuesday, the 31st of January 2023, Thaba-Tshwane City Hall, which is conveniently nestled at Thaba-Tshwane in the Southern part of the administrative capital was packed to the rafters when the Chief of the South African Landward Force, welcomed the 2023 Junior Command and Staff Course.

South Africa: On Tuesday, the 31st of January 2023, Thaba-Tshwane City Hall, which is conveniently nestled at Thaba-Tshwane in the Southern part of the administrative capital was packed to the rafters when the Chief of the South African Landward Force, welcomed the 2023 Junior Command and Staff Course.

“The course is directed to the Senior Officers of the SA Army and those of its strategic partners in the theory of command management of forces both in peace and wartime, with the focus on landward defence within the parameters of the approved curriculum”, said the Chief of the SA Army, Lieutenant General Khulekani Lawrence Mbatha.

Furthermore, he cautioned the learners that this year-long programme will demand more of their time, commitment and discipline. The Chief of the SA Landward Force also bid a hearty welcome to the international fellow learners on the course. This includes inter alia learners from Botswana, India, Namibia, Pakistan, Tanzania and Zambia.


 

 


He said: “I trust that the international fellows will accumulate more knowledge and share their experiences during this learning programme. Let me set the scene by saying that you are very privileged to be on this course and be afforded the opportunity to undergo this development program”.

Lieutenant General Mbatha urged the learners to use the opportunity which was afforded to them wisely. During this course, the learners will be exposed to the theoretical and practical phases that will be executed by means of a Divisional Exercise dubbed VUK’UHLOME at the South African Army Combat Training Centre.

Modules which form an integral part of the course include, among others, the SA Army capability known as EX SAFARI, capabilities of the SA Army Doctrine for Execution of Conventional Warfare, the Exercise which is intended to expose the learners to the SANDF Conventional Capabilities based on presentations, Demonstration by units involved and specialised directing staff and Instructors.

Furthermore, learners will be exposed to General Military studies, conventional Operations and the Military problem-solving mode and operations other than war and peace support operations. The Chief of the SA Army concluded his address b by wishing the General Officer Commanding Training Formation Brigadier General Madie and the Commandant of the SA Army College, Col Manthosi, the Directing Staff and his entire staff for the task that lies ahead.
