Africa Weather Forecast has predicted extreme weather conditions for South Africa from the coming week from December 18th to December 24th. It is forecasted that there will be isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the east for most of the week.
The forecasters predicted a weak hot to very hot elsewhere most of the week until Friday, when it becomes very hot and windy in the Cape, with widespread storms expected across the country on Sunday.
After light showers in the east this past weekend, there are signs of rainfall continuation across the eastern provinces for the first four days of the week, with light rainfall in the form of afternoon showers and thundershowers.
In contrast, the west and central interior may expect dominating clear skies with hotter temperatures and a risk of runaway veld fires over the central Cape interior throughout the week, especially on Friday.
Medium chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the central and eastern interior between Monday and Wednesday, affecting the least areas on Thursday and mostly the central and western interior on Friday.
Along the south coast, cloudy with light rainfall today (Monday) but shifting east on Tuesday when most of the eastern provinces will be cloudy; by Wednesday, light rainfall is once again expected along the far south coast, followed by clear skies on Thursday.
High chance of showers and thundershowers over the central interior on Friday, with a tropical link that brings moderate rainfall to the southeast. Otherwise, this may be the hottest day of the week (low 40s over the Cape) and the windiest day as strong NW winds are expected over the central Cape.
The wide upper-air high-pressure cell in the east will mostly limit thunderstorm development throughout the week. However, the weekend sees an erosion and destabilization in the upper air dynamics, combined with a semi-permanent surface trough, resulting in increased rainfall amounts for some of the central and western interior as the area of influence expands to include more of the country by Sunday.
Promises of inclement weather emanating from tropical moisture will most likely bring heavy rainfall to the central interior, with a very low chance of hail over the same central interior on Sunday.
