Cape Town: South African Flag was projected on the DHL Stadium ahead of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship clash between Rugby World Cup Champions Springboks and New Zealand.
The six-by-six metre flag stands at eight metres high and was projected near the stadium’s main entrance facing Signal Hill from 9:00 p.m. until midnight on Friday. The whole stadium expressed its green-and-gold fever loud and proud.
The South African flag was projected for ‘extra gees’ as Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis took to social media and stunned everyone by sharing the view.
It was projected on Saturday also after the game. The gesture of projecting flag signals the systems go for the DHL Stadium and the City of Cape Town ahead of the monumental game.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said that the Cape Town city is united in pride and excitement as we prepare to host the world champion Bokke for the historic clash against the greatest rivals.
He added, “To support the major event, the City is pleased to announce an expanded and free MYCiTi shuttle service for spectators form Century City, UCT, CTICC, Thibault Square and Civic Centre stations on Saturday.”
Reportedly, the City of Cape Town projected the flag in honour of hosting a four-time Rugby World Cup champions, the Springboks for their Castle Lager Rugby Championship game against New Zealand at the DHL Stadium.
The Championship was held at the DHL Stadium for the 5:00 p.m. kick off as the Springboks return to play in Cape Town for the first time since their victory against Wales in front of a 52,000 strong crowd in the year 2022.
It is for the first time that the Springboks will go head-to-head with All Blacks in Cape Town, since 2017.
The city supported that championship at its best and also provided parking facilities and shuttle service to avoid any kind of rush or traffic block on roads.
