South Korean President to visit Egypt for the first time in 16 years

The President of South Korea “Moon Jae” is planning to come and visit Egypt for the first-ever time in 16 years on Wednesday, January 20, as part of the Middle East tour.

President Abdel-Fatah Al Sisi’s invitation was expanded for the two presidents in order to discuss bilateral ties in sustainable growth and supporting future cooperation in several fields.

As per the confirmation by the South Korean Ambassador to Cairo, Hong Jin Wook, the visit of President Moon to Egypt will be for three days. An ambassador confirmed it in a conference meeting on January 16.

Both presidents will also be planning to hold a business conference where they will discuss renewable industries and the development of eco-friendly infrastructure.

However, South Korea and Egypt’s strategic partnership in 2016 played a role in advancing the bilateral ties between the two nations by giving special regard to the trade centre.

As per the recent reports issued in December 2021, Egypt Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea highlighted a 46.9 per cent growth from January to October 2021, reaching USD 1.28 billion in 2020.

The Trade exchange between these two nations includes oil products, granite, zinc, machines, and pieces of equipment.

At the same time, Egypt’s exporters to the South Korean market saw an increment of 62.3 percent, which took the USD to 531.5 million (EGP 8.34 billion) in 2021.

According to the Egyptian government, South Korea is one of Egypt’s most important trading partners.

As per Presidential Spokesperson ‘Park Kyung-mee” stated in a press conference the importance of the relationship between Egypt and South Korea with Egypt being the overseas logistics epicentre and the base country for Korean more corporate progress in Africa.
