St. Kitts and Nevis Government confirmed that the three nationals from Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States have arrived in the Federation on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Following their transfer from the United States of America (USA), the deportees specifically belong to Jamaica and Belize.
According to the Government, the relocation is being facilitated under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that is signed between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States. The MOU allows for the transfer of certain third-country nationals who are citizens of CARICOM Member States.
Earlier, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew emphasised that the bilateral agreement signed between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States is a limited, voluntary arrangement firmly grounded in CARICOM principles. He explained that the agreement reflects St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to regional cooperation, noting that CARICOM citizens already have the right to move within the Community and that member states have generally agreed to receive their own nationals.
Considering this, authorities stated that the arrangement comes at no financial cost to the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. Upon arrival, the individuals underwent through standard immigration and security procedures. They were also granted the immigration status and legal provisions that are generally extended to CARICOM nationals residing within the Federation.
Transfer Arrangement Under Bilateral Agreement
The Government explained that the transfer forms part of an official agreement between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States concerning the relocation of CARICOM nationals. The initiative specifically applies to third-country nationals from CARICOM Member States and is being executed without financial burden on the Federation.
Security and Immigration Measures in Place
Authorities confirmed that all relevant national security, immigration and law enforcement agencies were fully briefed and involved in the process. Prior to the transfer, the United States Government reportedly provided available biographical information, along with medical and criminal background details, related to the individuals.
Officials emphasised that the individuals are not being transferred due to criminal convictions. Instead, their removal from the United States is linked to immigration violations.
Rights and Legal Options of the Individuals
The Government clarified that the transferred individuals retain the option to return to their respective countries of nationality, in accordance with the immigration laws and requirements of those countries, should they choose to do so.
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis reiterated its commitment to the orderly management of migration, in adherence to international obligations and the protection of national security and public safety. Members of the public were encouraged to rely on official government channels for verified updates and information regarding the matter.
