City of Cape Town completes upgradation work of Tafelberg Road ahead of the winter rains. Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility – Councillor Rob Quintas confirmed his visit to the site with local ward councillor for Ward 77 – Francine Higham.
Reportedly, construction of Tafelberg Road is a rehabilitation project that provides access to the popular Table Mountain National Park and the Table Mountain aerial cableway.
Considering this, Councillor Rob Quintas said that the project has took approx. 18 months and they are very happy to see the work getting completed before the rainy season. He expressed that the end result is impressive and he desires to thank the road users, visitors and residents for their patience and support while they were doing the work.
Moreover, the road was resurfaced but there were some infrastructure upgrades that included wider verges, extended boardwalks, formalised paved parking areas and sidewalks, as well as an upgraded stormwater system that has retained walls, gabions and excellent infrastructure to assist with channelling runoff from rainfall events away from the road.
Councillor Francine Higham further said that she encouraged the residents and visitors to do this walk and appreciate the amazing work that has been done here. It is a significant upgrade, that also provides safer access for pedestrians all the way from Kloof Nek Road right up to the cableway.
Furthermore, the upgradations along with Tafelberg Road includes the following important things, such as:
- Restoration and upgrade of the road
- Rehabilitation of parking facilities
- Rehabilitation of stormwater infrastructure
- Building a sidewalk along the 1.3km section of road to improve pedestrian safety
- Restoration of embarkment retaining structures to protect the infrastructure against mudslides and severe weather events.
The City of Cape Town is making various rehabilitation upgradations that has improved the infrastructure of the city and has developed it many ways. The place has been refurbished in many ways and is bringing changes by creating something new.
