South Africa: Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis shared an appreciation post supporting the Team South Africa as they marched with the flag at the opening ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024.
Praising them, Mayor Lewis wrote, “Cape Town is fully behind Team South Africa as they take on the world in the Olympics! We’re proud of you!”
Team South Africa has sent a squad of nearly 150 athletes to Paris 2024. At Olympics, the country made its ninth appearance, since its readmission into the international sport in the year 1991.
Reportedly, one of the powerhouses on the African continent, South Africa will be chasing silverware across 19 sports, during the global multi-sports showpiece from July 26, 2024 to August 11, 2024 in Paris, France.
The South Africa team’s objective is to perform their absolute best and raise the South African flag high, just like they did in previous years.
Considering this, South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) announced a total of 138 athletes, who will represent the Team South Africa in 19 different codes including gymnastics, rugby sevens, swimming, surfing, canoeing, climbing and athletics. However, for a variety of codes, the team has additional nine reserve players.
The opening ceremony for the Olympic Games in Paris was held along the River Seine – the main waterway of the capital and venue for the 2024 Paris Games.

Olympic gymnast Caitlin Rooskrantz was granted the chance to officially bear the Flag for Team South Africa. She was spotted, along with her fellow South African athletes, flying the South African flag high on the River Seine, as they graced the Parade of Nations at the opening of the Paris Games on Friday, July 26, 2024.
The official Team of South Africa took to Instagram before the ceremony kick-off, with a team, that portrayed and celebrated the incredible group of South African athletes representing the nation at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Expressing their joy the Team wrote “Team SA is all suited up and filled with excitement as they prepare for the extraordinary Opening Ceremony,” and shared the glimpses.
