Zambia: Chati Ward Councilor Teddy Namitondo has expressed his concerns over the lack of commitment to development projects. The contractors who have been engaged in them are not working efficiently.

The civic leader in Kalulushi shared his concern about the situation. He claimed that because of the laxity, development in the area is moving at a slow pace. He made these remarks during an interview with the media.

The community is waiting for the completion and construction of the development projects. The local government official has shared that several government projects are pending in his community. He claimed that the engaged contractors have for an unexplained reason abandoned the works.

“For example, construction of Chati secondary school which was supposed to have been done by 2022 is still on and the contractor has abandoned the project”,he said.

He shared that the delays in the development projects are making the people of the community dissatisfied with the administration’s speed. The authorities, including the President of the country, is dedicated to the promotion of the country.

Teddy Namitondo also disclosed that the DMMU project which is the construction of a one by two classroom block at Kokami Primary School, was supposed to be done by 2022. However, the construction project is also still under construction.

Currently, the  Chati Ward councillor is worried about the lack of progress in the community. “Nothing has been done on the ground while the selected contractor has abandoned the project without doing any work.”

Namitondo said because of this laxity, residents in the area are worried. The councillor has accordingly asked the contractors to ensure that they complete the projects within the stipulated time.

The government recently declared that it will ensure the support of local contractors for construction projects in the various communities. He noted that support will be provided for breakers and carpenters in development projects such as schools and hospitals.

However, local contractors often abandon the projects for unexplained reasons, which unsettles authorities.

The people of the country, on the other hand, have extended their support to the authorities and claimed that contractors are not serious about their work.
