Botswana: Tonota District Council held a stakeholder roundtable meeting with Tonota Based Contractors. The meeting aimed to form and cultivate good working relations with the stakeholders of the country.

Further, the District Council also sought to interact with the stakeholders and receive feedback from Contractors. The officials have shared their commitment to developing the infrastructure of the district.

During the meeting, several stakeholders of the District administration were present to interact with the Tonota based contractors. The Council Secretary, Thupayamodimo Okaile talked about the significance of the meeting.

She said it is important to get feedback from stakeholders as it helps to improve service delivery. She added that the main reason for the meeting was to engage with Contractors as key stakeholders.

They play a major role in the infrastructural development of the district. These contractors have worked with the Council on projects that are for the development of the District.

She asserted that the district expects Contractors to start, complete and deliver quality projects on time and within budget. The council secretary also added that corruption is two-way, Contractors should also help fight corruption by not entertaining corrupt practices.

Meanwhile, the Council Chairman of Tonota District Baemedi Medupi also delivered brief remarks during the roundtable meeting. He was happy to be present at the meeting with Contractors, indicating that some Contractors have been looking forward to engaging with the Council regarding business dealings.

According to the council chairman, they want to support local companies so they will make sure projects are awarded to Tonota District companies only.

The Contractors expressed concerns about some business dealings with the Council such as database management, procurement processes, payments and cancellation of tenders and suggested ways on how the Council can better do business with them.

Finance Committee Chairperson, Otlogetswe Balotlhanyi said this kind of meeting needs to be hosted time and again. He reasoned that the Council can get direct feedback from Contractors who play a critical role in undertaking district projects.

He assured the Contractors that they have noted their feedback and are looking forward to improving doing business with them.
