Botswana: Tonota District Council has launched the foster care programme in collaboration with Childline Botswana. The initiative hopes to help and support the vulnerable and orphaned children by giving them a loving family.

The foster programme is a temporary arrangement where a family or an individual provides a new home for a child or children. The programme is especially affective for those children who cannot live safely with their family of origin.

The authorities have observed that there are some biological families who mistreat and abuse the children. Alternately, these families are unable to provide the children with a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.

The foster care initiatieve aims to give these vulnerable children the protection that they need.

The MVA Fund Francistown Branch Manager Kite K. Mose-Nkala spoke at the launch event and highlighted the cruciality of the programme. He said foster care represents collective efforts and a significant step forward in provision of a loving, stable, and nurturing environments for the children within the community.

He stressed that Foster care is a reflection of our values as it ensures that kids are living in stable and have a sense of belonging to families.

“Many foster kids may feel lonely, having no parental figure guiding them properly, he emphasized that being a foster parent, one get the opportunity to set an example for them by being a role model” said Mr Mose- Nkala.

He further said our collective dedication towards ensuring a supportive and loving family environment is one that need to be held in high regard. He highlighted that the children are the future of our nation as future leaders of our nation are dependent on it.

The people of the country have  been urged to volunteer their services to the district council’s foster care initiative.

Expanding upon this, Tonota District Council Chairman, Baemedi Medupi appreciated the Guest of honor and all attendants for gracing the event. He said he is hopeful with community will join forces to help raise children in a desirable manner and volunteer to  foster
