Lodwar, Kenya: The Turkana County Government conducted the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations on Tuesday in Lodwar, Kenya. The Celebrations were officially led by the County Governor, Jeremiah Lomorukai, at the Moi Gardens Ground.
The Celebration of the 60th Jamhuri Day was conducted under the theme, “Youth, Creative Economy and Sports“.
While Marking the Celebrations, County Governor Jeremiah emphasised the importance of three main principles: Freedom, Unity and Justice to shape the nation.
“May the Principals of Freedom, Unity and Justice that Kenya Stands for be a source of inspiration and continue to shape our nation’s journey”, he added.
Several delegations from the Government of Turkana accompanied the Turkana Governor, Lomorukai in the celebration of Kenya’s independence. The officials included First Lady Lillian Komudei Ekamais, County Commissioner Jacob Ouma, and Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus.
Further, several other delegations from Turkana were also present at the event. These were generally the leaders, including the Turkana Central MP Emathe Namuar, Women Representative Cecilia Ngitit, MCAs Ruth Kuya (Lodwar Township), James Ikeny (Kanamkemer), Vincent Ekipor (Lokichoggio), and Mary Arupe (nominated).
Reportedly, Kenya celebrates its independence day each year on 12th December as Jamhuri Day. The Celebrations across the nation are made to demonstrate the spirit of independence and unity.
Marking the Jamhuri Day, the Turkana Governor also took to his social media handle today to wish the community members a happy and prosperous 60th Jamhuri (Independence).
The Minister of Medical Services at Lodwar, Mwandi Ommondi Essekon extended his happiness and gratitude to the governor for hosting today’s celebrations.
“May this Jamhuri remind all our elected leaders that we have just one Kenya and one Turkana county and one interest in eradicating illiteracy and hunger and that all need to have equal opportunities of education, job opportunities and regional development in all the sub-counties within Turkana county”, he commented further on the post of Governor Lomorukai.
