Botswana: The Ambassador of Turkey to Botswana Ambassador Ahmet Idem AKAY has facilitated the donation of Special Education Equipment to Selolwe CJSS Special Unit. The Ambassador made the donation when he was accompanying his team to the unit.
The Community Junior Secondary Schools have been a crucial part of the education sector of Botswana. They have been helping students in the various communities of the country do that they can learn with their peers.
The CJSS Special Unit, which received the donation from the Turkish Ambassador caters to special needs students. The secondary school was opened recently to accommodate the children who need extra help in managing their education.
The newly established Unit admits learners with Visual Impairment from Phatlhogo Primary School. The Phatlhogo Primary School is a specialized Primary School with Visually impaired learners.
The Turkish Embassy through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) which is attached at to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is a philanthropic organisation that helps nations across different sectors such as education.
The donation of the Turkish ambassadors was accepted with significant gratitude by the staff and leadership of the CJSS Special Unit.
The Turkish Ambassador delivered a brief address while he was handing over the donation. He noted that his country prioritizes education hence the support through the resources.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Chief Education Officer in the North East Region Boy Olekantse thanked the Turkish Embassy for the donation. He also assured the Embassy of maximum and profitable use by the learners.
He said the Unit has just opened and the donation will positively augment materials already available which have not been enough.
The Donation includes the following;
- 5 Plastic braille slates
- 5500 sheets of braille papers
- 3 calculators with speech
- 1 heater for creating tactile studying materials
- 100 sheets of swell paper
- 1 braille embosser
- 2 electronic magnifiers
- 1 braille reader and notetater
- 1 Optical reader
- 2 different braiile translation and studying software.
The total value cost of all the members of the community are P285 000.00
