Cape Town: The famous Minstrel Parade is about to get a new route in 2026. The Event Permit Office of the City of Cape Town is reviewing an application for a revised route for the Cape Town Street Parade (Tweede Nuwe Jaar Parade), which to be taken in 2026.
Considering this, the City of Cape Town would like to advise spectators and residents on event logistics. The review and finalisation of the safety and logistical planning of the event would take place on Monday, January 05, 2026 in Green Point.
The Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA) – which is the official organisation responsible for the minstrel parade, has applied for the march celebration to go through the fan walk down the Somerset Road and then into DHL Stadium.
In the recently made proposal, approx. 20,000 performers would march from Chiappini Street, while entertaining crowds along the 1.2 km stretch of Somerset Road before heading into the stadium.
Reportedly, the event’s starting time is 11:00 a.m. and the last troupe is expected to hit the parade corridor from 05:00 p.m. From there, the action will move to the DHL Stadium for day one of the KKKA competitions until 10:00 a.m.
The road closures are must be followed during the event that will have a significant impact on several roads in and around the Green Point area from early on Monday, January 05, 2025.
Notably, Somerset Road, Green Point Main Road, Prestwich Street, Chiappini Street, Ebenezer Road and Waterkant Street will be among the major roads affected by road closures between 06:00 a.m. and 09:00 p.m. Access will only be provided for residents, permit holders, hotel guests and staff.
Parking for the vehicles must kept in supervision. Noting which the spectators are advised that there will be no parking allowed on side streets in Green Point, Cape Town. Vehicles parked illegally, in designated no stopping zones or in front of residential properties will be towed away.
Also, free public parking will be made available in P9 and P10 on Bill Peters Drive in Green Point. Spectators are also advised of paid parking at the V&A Waterfront, which has open-air and underground parking bays available to the public.
