South Africa: The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Water and Environment through its Water and Sanitation Development Facility-North, is currently implementing Phase Ill and Phase IV of the KfW funding programme; “Support for water supply and sanitation in refugee hosting communities in Northern Uganda Project.”
KfW also intends to fund the following programs:
•Phase V of the support for Water Supply and Sanitation Facilities
•Climate Change resilience and water infrastructure program
•Transformation to CO2-neutral water supply
• EU-WASH in institutions program
KfW, together with the Ministry of Water and Environment through WSDF-North, are carrying out an appraisal mission of the above programmes from 11th to 22nd July 2022.
This KfW appraisal Mission Team is being led by Mareike Beckmann, Portfolio Manager KfW group, while the Ministry of Water and Environment is being led by Engineer Richard Matua, the Assistant Commissioner of Planning and Development.
Other partners participating in the Mission include WSDF-North, Consulting Engineers Salzgitter (International Management Consultant), Umbrella of Water and Sanitation-North, National Water Sewerage Corporation, Yumbe and Amuru District Local Government Officials.
The Team has carried out inspections in:
1. Amuru District Local Government, Amuru Town Council and Yumbe District, where piped water supply systems are planned to be constructed under phase V.
2. Lajoro and Agole Primary Schools in Amuru District, which are to benefit from the EU-WASH project.
3. Pabbo Town Board Piped Water Supply and Sanitation System under Umbrella of Water and Sanitation-North, which is planned to benefit under the Climate Change Resilient Programme.
Today was concluded with a visit to several water supply systems in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement in Yumbe District, where the Ministry and KfW intend to optimize the systems constructed by other partners.
