Vehicle hijacked in Canelands – KZN, victim unharmed

Five men have hijacked a silver Toyota Conquest from the home of the victim on Station Road in Canelands – KZN.

South Africa: Five men have hijacked a silver Toyota Conquest on Station Road in Canelands – KZN. The incident happened during the early hours of the morning on Sunday. According to the victim, the suspects took his phone from him and hijacked his car.

The suspects took control of his vehicle and left the area where the hijacking happened. After a short distance, the suspects dumped him on the road. The victim returned home and borrowed a cell phone to report the incident.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from the victim seeking help at approximately 00:06. A team of Reaction officers was dispatched to the victim’s residence.

After the team’s arrival, the victim informed them that the suspects surrounded him at his driveway gate and overpowered him. They got control of his Toyota Conquest and left the scene.

The law enforcement officers have successfully recovered the vehicle. According to the Verulam SAPS, they used the services of a Tracking company to track the vehicle down,  The suspects had abandoned the Toyota on Vincent Dickenson Road in Canelands – KZN shortly afterwards.

According to the officers, the battery of the vehicle and the sound system were stolen by the suspects. The officials have confirmed that the victim was not injured in the ordeal. The incidents of vehicle hijacking have seen a sharp rise in the Verulam and Canelands area.

The people have shared that they are disappointed with the increased insecurity in the region. The people believe the area has become a hotspot for the vehicle hijackers. In many of these incidents, the victims are known to sustain significant injuries.

However, the fact that the victim was safe and escaped injuries in this case was extremely reassuring for the people. Some residents of the area have suggested that NIU needs to be deployed in Verulam to deal with these criminals now.
