South Africa: Wesgro participated in the Regional Investment Conference 2024 which was held recently from Nov 14 to 16 at the Knysna Premier Hotel. It was hosted collaboratively by the Knysna Municipality, the Greater Knysna Business Chamber and the Yona-Yethu Initiative.
The objective to participate in this mission was to drive investment and economic growth in Cape Town and the Western Cape. The corporate event brought together the investors, policymakers and business leaders.
They together explored the vast economic potential in the region and discussed the critical economic and social challenges such as energy security, infrastructure development, housing and climate adaptation.
The event featured speeches, presentations and discussions that were focused mainly on how best to address these issues by identifying innovative and sustainable solutions that would help in driving investment into the region and in turn will generate the economic growth.
Considerably, the keynote address was delivered by the Deputy President – Paul Mashatile and highlighted the operation Vulindlela which is an economic reform programme designed to drive growth and create job opportunities.
Later the presentation was given by Wesgro’s Acting Head of Investment Promotion – Mzwandile Zwai Nomandla on the Graden Route District Municipality, explaining its trends, trade and investment performance, demographic insights. In turn it will showcase investment potential of Knysna and Garden Route.
After that session Deputy Minister of Finance Ashor Sarupen MP spoke on role of National Treasury in fostering the economic growth through both governments funded projects and initiatives where private sector funding is crowded in.
The insightful presentations from the Garden Route District Municipality emphasised the need for infrastructure investment to accommodate population growth and support sustainable economic development.
Notably, Wesgro is continuously supporting the investment, trade and tourism growth opportunities in all the regions of the Western Cape across the City of Cape Town and all major five regions in the province. Those regions are represented by the district municipalities that are Garden Route District Municipality, West Coast District Municipality, Overberg District Municipality, as well as Cape Winelands DM and the Central Karoo District Municipality.
