Reportedly, for Cape Town and the Western Cape, B20 engagements will provide an important opportunity to showcase the many compelling reasons that why their destination is a leading regional economy.
B20 Launch Event
The B20 South Africa Launch event will be held in Cape Town from Feb 24-25, 2025, marking the beginning of an intensive year of engagement with G20 leaders. As a key international forum, the B20 plays a crucial role in shaping global policies on labour and social issues, finance, trade and other economic priorities.
B20 Theme
Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) is a longstanding member of IOE that has been officially designated as the secretariat for the Business Engagement Group (B20) of the G20. It will lead this initiative under the theme ‘Inclusive Growth and Prosperity through Global Cooperation’ which is the cornerstone mission of B20 South Africa.
The B20 theme underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing global economic challenges and ensuring that the growth benefits all the segments of society.
Moreover, IOE Vice President to the ILO – Renate Hornung-Draus will also attend and deliver a keynote address. The B20 event will feature the task forces addressing the key areas such as trade enhancement, infrastructure development, sustainable energy transitions and food security.

In year 2023, 89% of Western Cape exported value of R178.88 billion which were destined for G20 markets. Also, G20 countries were accounted for 716,517 arrivals in the Western Cape. This is 55% of the total number of arrivals for this time.
