Zambia: A 26-year-old woman has died after she was electrocuted in her house. She was living in the house with her boyfriend. The victim has been identified as Catherine, who was accommodated in a house in the Kaleya Station area of Mazabuka district.

The boyfriend, identified as John Banda is estimated to be aged 20 and was working as a herbalist. The owner of the house found the body of the victim after she had been electrocuted and reported the incident to the Police,

The owner of the house is identified as 35-year-old Christopher Lubasi. He reported the incident to Mazabuka Police on April 17, 2024, around 22:10 hours after he found the victim unresponsive.

He informed the Officers that he had accommodated the couple at his house for a short time. He had left them alone in the house while running a personal errand.

He had left the house at approximately 9:00 hours and returned exactly twelve hours later and found that the girl was dead. Meanwhile, he could not find the victim’s boyfriend anywhere in the house.

The Police force has started an investigation into the incident and have shared their initial findings. Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka informed the media that the deceased is suspected to have touched an extension cable. The extension cable was connected from the one-way socket to the adapter.

Touching a live wire caused her to get electrocuted. The medical experts have examined the body for physical injuries.

According to the Police Commissioner, the left-hand fingers of the victim were injured due to the electrocution. They observed that some of the skin was coming out due to some burns.

Meanwhile, the remains of the lady were taken to Mazabuka General Hospital and deposited into the mortuary for further investigations. The evidence on the site of the incident suggests that the death occurred due to accidental electrocution.

However, the investigations are ongoing and the boyfriend of the victim has not made any statements yet.
